This series will take us back to the basics of digestion, metabolism, and nutrient needs, creating a foundation of knowledge based in research, food wisdom, body and mind attunement, and making the most of our food choices. Class 1 Friday May 31st: Let's chat about all things food and human digestion! In this class I spend some time teaching about our actual digestive system: organs involved, the path of our food, and how fats, carbs, and proteins are digested and metabolized. Class 2 Friday June 7th: Here we get into the nitty gritty of eating patterns. We are all trying to be the best versions of ourselves and food is part of that process. When are eating patterns supporting health and vitality and when do they become disordered and causing harm? We spend some time in discussion about what to look for when making food choices i.e. motivations, body-mind attunement, lifestyle needs, and mental health. Class 3 Friday June 14th: Oh the media. A love-hate relationship as we have all remarked. It is invaluable when connecting us to people we would otherwise lose touch with, we learn from others around the world, and really cool experiences are shared with us. We laugh, we're inspired, we get motivated. It is also a platform for beliefs, opinions, and at times, harmful exchanges. Food rules are rampant in the media. And it gets confusing, fast. Books have the same capabilities but not as quickly as the internet, the surfing and doom scrolls drop a lot of information in our laps quickly. It's helpful to know the basics of how to read, decipher, and apply research, to identify what is likely valid information, and what should get tossed. In this class, I talk about how to read research, where to find it, and good questions to ask. We brainstorm ways to minimize the shoulds and shouldn'ts found online and in books. We also talk about ways to handle comments from friends, family members, or partners who are giving food advice that can add to the overwhelm, confusion, and overall stress around food and eating patterns. $35 per class Please join for individual classes or all three!
